Help for Los Alamos Workers

The Federal Employee Education & Assistance fund, a Combined Federal Campaign charity, has established a special fund to aid the federal families forced to evacuate their homes and jobs or who suffered property losses because of the fires in Los Alamos, N.M. Tax-deductible contributions can be made via credit card by calling (800) 338-0755 or checks made out to the “FEEA Los Alamos Fund” can be mailed to FEEA, 8441 W. Bowles Ave. Suite 200, Littleton, Colorado 80123-9501. Those wishing to apply for assistance should call (800) 323-4140. Meanwhile, President Clinton has issued a memo stating that employees affected by the fires and who can be spared from their usual responsibilities be excused from duty without charge to leave or loss of pay. And the Office of Personnel Management has authorized agencies with employees in the area to establish emergency leave transfer programs.
