The Office of Personnel Management has indicated that effective in January 2001, two of the locality pay areas will be expanded: the San Francisco area will acquire Monterey, Calif., and the Boston area will pick up Rhode Island. The change will mean slightly higher 2001 locality raises for employees working in those two acquired areas than they otherwise would have received. Locality pay is paid according to where the employee’s official duty station is, not place of residence. Final rules to carry out the changes are yet to come.
