Can my retired spouse start FEHB after I separate?

My spouse has a claim for med disability retirement. We are both active fed employees. I’ve had the FEHB plan Self+Family including her for 15+ years. She believes we need to switch this to her name when disability starts to ensure it continues if/when I separate. I want to keep it under my name to maintain premium conversion. Will keeping it in my name pose any problems? Can’t we switch later?

You are 100% correct. Keeping it in your name will permit you to continue premium conversion whereas as a retiree, that option is not available. Since you are both federal employees, you have the opportunity to make changes during open seasons to change it to her name, to change plans/options or to switch to two self-only plans.
