FEHB coverage in retirement

I have 25 years of service and enrolled in a FEHB self plan. My spouse has 18 years of service and is also enrolled in a FEHB self plan. I plan on retiring in 5 years. When I do so, my wife will not meet minimum retirement age and will defer her retirement. Will I be able to pick her up on my FEHB plan, or will I have to be enrolled in a Self+1 or Self+Family for 5 y to maintain coverage?

You will be able to pick her up as when she leaves federal service, this is an opportunity for you to add her to your insurance. I might recommend you add her to yours and she cancel hers during the open season before you retire and be sure your SF-2809, Health Benefits Registration form, states you are coordinating benefits with your wife. FYI, it does not matter if you have two single plans or one family or self+1 plan for five years, what matters is you are covered under the government program for five years.
