How does FERS calculate unreduced retirement years of creditable service?

My total compensation statement on the GRB Platform shows I’m eligible for a Unreduced retirement benefit in about two years. I will meet the minimum age requirement based on my birth year of 1964 but I do not meet the 30 years of credible service, I’ll have 26 years. Does OPM count the years of military service you have bought back plus the sick leave balance as part of the credible service?

Your creditable service for eligibility includes your FERS service and your military service since the deposit has been satisfied. However, your sick leave cannot be used towards eligibility, only in the calculation of the annuity. So, if at your MRA you only have, say a total of 29.5 years of creditable, you would need to work another half year to be able to collect an immediate unreduced FERS annuity and be eligible for the FERS Retiree Supplement. If not, your could apply for the MRA+10 retirement option which in turn would penalize 30% for retiring at your MRA and not having the full 30 years of creditable service and no supplement.
