It may sound axiomatic, but there are folks who don’t actually confirm the maturity dates of the certificates of deposit. Later, they are stunned and dismayed to find out that far from locking in their money for six months or a year, they’ve instead signed up unwittingly for five to 10 years. The lesson here: before you buy a CD, find out the maturity date and get it in writing.
