Some financial advisors have warned against investing in retailers. The advent of Internet shopping, it has been said, will hurt bricks-and-mortar retail stores. So far, though, that doesn’t seem to be the case. The consulting firm Grubb & Ellis reports that rents for space in grocery-anchored centers rose a robust 12% in the past 12 months. The higher rents, in turn, show that retailers are prospering, willing to pay more for the spaces they occupy.
The bottom line: don’t be reluctant to invest in retailers, many of whose stock prices are well-valued now. In addition, if you are interested in buying investment property, consider a well-located local strip center.
