The Air Force is installing new lightweight airborne recovery systems (LARS) on its fleet of A-10 Thunderbolt II fighters. With the upgrades, the venerable close-air-support fighter will have the capability to better communicate with downed pilots, pararescuemen and joint terminal attack controllers. So far, planes at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., and Moody Air Force Base, Ga., are getting the upgrades.
