7th Fleet Drone Deployment Concludes

The 7th Fleet has concluded its deployment with the MQ-4C Reaper unmanned aerial vehicle. While at sea, the Unmanned Patrol Squadron (VUP) 19 paired the Reaper with the P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol and surveillance aircraft.

“Triton helps bolster our intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance operations on a global stage,” said Lt. Christopher Lee, a Triton naval flight officer. “The communication safety nets Triton brings to our friendly units is a game-changer.”

The Triton has flown alongside the Poseidon with the 7th Fleet since 2020, carrying multi-sensor payloads. Operations took place from at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, with other deployments from Misawa Air Base and Marine Corps Air Base in Japan.

Initial operational capability of the Reaper will begin sometime this year, when VUP-19 returns to the 7th Fleet from its home base at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida.
