Enlisted airmen can again take advantage of the Air Force’s Enlisted College Loan Repayment Program (ECLRP), which had been discontinued in 2014. It provides potential recruits with as much as $65,000 to repay student loans. Some conditions apply.
Airmen have to complete training up to 3-level skill in their Air Force specialty and be contracted to receive the ECLRP in order to get their money.
Once in, they will continue to receive the repayments until their annual funds are exhausted. Also, new recruits in high-demand careers could get additional funding through initial enlistment bonuses provided by the Air Force Recruiting Service. They can use both ECLRP and the enlistment bonuses at the same time, rather than having to pick one or the other.
Eligible reserve enlisteds, officers also can get relief from college loan debt through the Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP). To qualify, they need to complete one year of their six-year contract. Annual payments up to $3,500 per year would be made directly to the lending institution.
