The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command has warned Soldiers and family members of a Nigerian Fraud Scam, using unsolicited faxes, e-mail or letters. The Nigerian Scam starts with a scammer from Nigeria or another country making an unsolicited contact to request help in disposing of gold, money, oil revenues, or lottery winnings from an oversees location. Victims who respond to the proposals are asked to do something to show good faith with the person who sent the original mail. CID officials remind individuals to never provide personal or financial identification to an unsolicited request, and never travel to foreign locations to meet with the individuals conducting these schemes. Individuals who have suffered a financial loss should call the nearest field office of the Secret Service. Those who have not suffered a loss can forward unsolicited emails to the U.S. Secret Service at 419.fcd@usss.treas.gov.
