Noting that they constitute the fastest growing segment of veterans seeking care from the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) offered several suggestions to improve health-care treatment for women. In the March 31 report, GAO suggested that VA provide:
* Better oversight;
* Independent validation of privacy-policy compliance;
* Expedition of design and construction of adequate facilities;
* Clearly defining "appropriate and necessary training" for mental health professionals who treat patients of military sexual trauma, and;
* Clearly defining roles and responsibilities for of VA’s women veterans’ program managers.
