The Kansas National Guard deployed four UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters March 27 to assist firefighters as they battle the biggest wildfire in the state’s history. Stars and Stripes reported that two of the helicopters are capable of carrying 660-gallons of water in buckets that can be dumped onto the flames. The Guard also is providing a fuel-tanker truck and another support vehicle in the on-ground effort. To date, the fires have destroyed more than 620 square miles of land in southern Kansas and parts of Oklahoma.
