Medical researchers at two Maryland installations hope to produce a vaccine for the Coronavirus by year’s end.
The Association of the U.S. Army reports that the work, which is taking place at the Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases at Fort Detrick and the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Silver Spring hope to begin the first phase of human trials this summer.
The initial test would involve 300 subjects. Another 1,000 people would take part in the second phase in September, with the final phase to include some 30,000 volunteer participants sometime near the end of the year, AUSA reported.
Researchers at Walter Reed say they have been vaccinating “hundreds” of mice with different types of vaccines. They will select the most successful one for the human tests.
