Marines Select New Senior-most Enlisted

Sgt. Maj. Carlos A. Ruiz has been selected to become the Marine Corps’ senior-most enlisted member. He will succeed outgoing Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps Troy E. Black, in a ceremony to be held Aug. 8.

A Phoenix native, Ruiz presently serves as Command Senior Enlisted Leader for U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and U.S. Marine Corps Forces South.

Besides rising to numerous leadership roles since enlisting in November 1993, Ruiz deployed to support both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, and with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.
