Navy Secretary Ray Mabus announced that the third Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier will be named Enterprise, in honor of the recently inactivated vessel that was the Navy’s first nuclear-powered carrier. The new Enterprise will be 1,092 feet long, have a 134-foot beam, a 256-foot-wide flight deck, and reach speeds in excess of 34 knots. It will be built at Huntington Ingalls Industries-Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia.
