Air Force officers with prior enlisted experience now could be allowed to retire through the service’s 10-8 commission waiver program, the Air Force Personnel Center announced May 17. Previously, prior enlisted officers must have served at least 10 years on active duty while commissioned. The application window is open until June 1; selectees must retire by Sept. 1. The Air Force hopes the change will bring officer strength in overstaffed career fields down to levels mandated by Congress. Some career fields are ineligible.
