New Subs To Be Named Tang, Wahoo

The Navy will name two future Virginia-class attack submarines USS Tang and USS Wahoo. The names are eponymous with submarines that saw action during World War II.
“These boats will honor the strong traditions and heritage of the silent service,” Navy Secretary Kenneth J. Braithwaite said in a Nov. 17 announcement.

Like other Virginia-class submarines, Tang and Wahoo will be capable of conducting seek-and-destroy missions against enemy surface ships and submarines. They will be carry Tomahawk cruise missiles and carry special-operations forces, conduct intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions, support battle group operations, and conduct mine warfare.
