One Percent Pay Raise Proposed for 2014

Service members would receive a one-percent pay raise in January 2014, under the budget proposal the Defense Department plans to submit to Congress. The pay hike would be smaller than initially projected, but would enable the Pentagon to protect other benefits such as housing and subsistence, tuition assistance, child care and youth programs, health care, and military retirement, spokesman George Little said. “The proposal provides a pay raise for U.S. forces in an era of slowing defense spending,” Little said.
