Raids Target Terrorists in Somalia

U.S. troops and planes conducted a raid upon positions in Somalia held by the al-Shabaab terrorist group on June 11, the Pentagon announced. The raids were launched in response to al-Shabaab attacks on friendly Somali forces. “The operation occurred approximately 185 miles southwest of Mogadishu,” Pentagon spokeswoman Dana W. White said. “The U.S. conducted this operation in coordination with its regional partners as a direct response to al-Shabaab actions. We remain committed to working with our Somali partners and allies to systematically dismantle al-Shabaab, and help a achieve stability and security throughout the region,” she said.
