Rear Adm. Yvette Davids stands to become the U.S. Naval Academy’s first female superintendent. Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Michael M. Gilday nominated her to the position April 21. Should the Senate confirm Davids, the career-long surface warfare officer would advance to vice admiral and assume the leadership role at the Annapolis institution from which she graduated in 1989.
Currently the director of the Learning to Action Drive Team, Davids previously has served as commander of the frigate USS Curts, guided-missile cruiser USS Bunker Hill, and Carrier Strike Group 11. When she was assigned to the Curts, Davids became the first Hispanic woman to command a Navy warship. She is a native of San Antonio, Texas.
