Now that the declared Covid-19 public health emergency has lapsed, the Department of Veterans Affairs has announced the resumption of some pre-Covid services. Included are:
• A return of in-person visits for Veteran Family Caregivers for home-care assessments, reassessments, and wellness contacts.
• VA will resume use of VA Video Connect as the primary video platform authorized for scheduled video telehealth visits, with Webex as an alternative in some cases.
• VA clinicians will temporarily still be able to prescribe controlled medicines to veterans following telehealth examinations, without an in-person visit.
• Homeless veterans will no longer get direct support – to include food, shelter, clothing, blankets and hygiene items. While Congress is considering measures that would restore some of these services, VA is taking steps to help ensure a smooth transition.
• Pre-pandemic VA travel reimbursement deadlines have been restored, giving less time to apply.
• VA no longer has the authority to provide Covid-19 vaccinations to spouses, caregivers and veterans who are not enrolled in VA health care.
