The Coast Guard marked the formal beginning of construction on the National Coast Guard Museum at the city pier in New London, Connecticut, during an Aug. 19 ceremony. Joining Adm. Linda Fagan, the commandant, were Democratic Reps. Rose DeLauro and Joe Courtney and Sen. Richard Blumenthal – all of Connecticut.
Once it opens, the museum will feature six floors and 80,000 square feet of exhibit space – all dedicated to those who served past and present.
“I am excited about the National Coast Guard Museum, a place where we can share our history and stories with the American public,” Fagan said during the ceremony. “I appreciate the many people who worked hard to get us here, and I can’t wait to see this new museum take shape.”
