Federal agencies once again received a collective grade of A in the SBA’s annual assessment SBA of how well they have met certain contracting goals it oversees.
Among the 24 Cabinet departments and largest independent agencies, 10 scored an A+ for exceeding goals by at least 20 percent while the lowest-rated were VA with a D and HHS with a C. DoD and Treasury received a B and the rest As.
The scorecard evaluates records on meeting goals—separately for both prime contracts and subcontracts—for awards to small businesses, women-owned small businesses, small disadvantaged businesses, service-disabled veteran owned businesses, and HUBZone small businesses.
The ranking Republican on the Senate Small Business Committee, Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa, last year introduced a bill (S-2720) to shift the measurement away from dollar amount, saying the current method gives agencies too many “easy A’s.”
