Agencies Urged to Get Involved in PrepareAthon

OPM has urged agencies to participate in FEMA’s next national day of action, on September 30, for organizations—and individuals—to take actions to improve their preparedness for a potential disaster.

“FEMA’s goal is to increase the number of citizens who understand the hazards most relevant to their community; know the corresponding protective actions, mitigation measures, and community plans. Participants should practice a real-time behavior to increase their preparedness and contribute to whole community preparedness planning,” a memo said.

It suggested that agencies sponsor activities including drills, group discussions or exercises on topics including earthquakes, flooding, hurricanes, tornadoes, and wildfires.

It added that agencies may schedule events during the week prior to or the week after the official date, if that date is inconvenient.
