Federal Manager's Daily Report

Comptrollers Cite Concern with Workforce Transition

Financial professionals at DoD are more concerned than ever about the impact of the aging workforce in the financial management community and the difficulties in attracting new employees to those jobs, according to a recent report.

The report by the American Society of Military Comptrollers, done in conjunction with a consulting firm, said that while that has been a concern for years, it “has never been so clearly articulated” as in the latest polling.

A related concern was that budget restrictions would leave the workforce “inadequate to support the level of manpower and IT systems required,” it said.

“Many respondents felt reductions in personnel and funding, coupled with other overwhelming increases in time required to build sustainable budgets in the current atmosphere of uncertainty, will overshadow the push to obtain auditability. Consequently, they are extremely concerned leadership’s focus on auditability will wane and will be overcome by operational necessities,” it said.
