Defense Agency Tasked With Improving Iraq Contracting

The Defense Business Transformation Agency has been asked to lead a task force to improve contracting and spur job growth in Iraq.

Deputy under secretary of defense for business transformation Paul Brinkley was tapped to lead the task force, intended to evaluate the Pentagon’s business enterprise process and associated systems in Iraq affecting contracting, logistics, fund distribution and financial management, according to a DoD statement.

It said the task force would also attempt to align military reconstruction objectives with economic development, but would not be responsible for contracting itself.

The task force would however advise existing DoD contracting processes and associated systems solutions to spur economic growth.

The task force has also been asked to come up with recommendations and plans regarding the deployment of a common system and business process for contingency contract management in Iraq; the establishment of appropriate contracting authority to meet the requirements of the US central command; and policy, process and systems support to ensure effective and rapid command utilization of the commander’s emergency response program funds.
