Differences in Opinions by DoD Employees Found

The Defense Department has released the detailed breakdown of responses from its employees in the recent federal employee survey, which shows DoD employees largely in line with the opinions of other agencies but with notable differences in several areas.

Telework in particular received mixed signals. The level of satisfaction with the department’s telework program increased by 5 percentage points, from 61 to 66 percent over the 2011 survey, the only area of increase of that magnitude; there were no areas of decreasing satisfaction of 5 points or more.

However, the DoD satisfaction rate still trails the government-wide average of 73 percent, making telework the only area behind by 5 or more points compared with the government as a whole.

DoD meanwhile scored above the government-wide average in preparing employees for potential security threats (85 to 78), being successful in accomplishing its mission (82 to 76) and protecting employees from health and safety hazards on the job (82 to 77).

DoD was slightly ahead of the government-wide scores on compilations of various questions related to leadership and knowledge management, results-oriented performance culture, talent management and job satisfaction.
