The Office of Personnel Management has announced that it
configured key management positions in the integration of
1,800 employees from the Defense Security Service into
its center for investigative services to be filled in the
coming weeks.
It said new management positions include a chief and deputy
chief of operations for each of four regions, as well as a
program manager and deputy program manager for quality
assurance and investigations support functions at the
personnel investigations center at Ft. Mead, Md. — and
that the new team would report to the center for federal
investigative services center in Boyers, Pa., for
orientation sessions beginning February 14.
The defense authorization act of 2004 allowed the transfer
of the personnel security investigation function from
DSS to OPM where all investigations will be performed
for the Department of Defense.
OPM said CFIS supports thousands of DoD and non-DoD
federal security offices worldwide and its automated
support systems handled more than a million requests
related to background investigations during 2004.
