The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which provides administrative judges to hear federal employee complaints of discrimination upon request and also adjudicates appeals from final agency decisions, has announced that it secured over $61.9 million in relief for parties who requested hearings in the federal sector in fiscal 2012.
It said there were a total of 7,728 requests for hearings received and the Commission’s hearings program resolved a total of 7,538 complaints.
During the last fiscal year, the EEOC received 4,350 appeals of final agency actions in the federal sector, a 16 percent decrease from the 5,176 such appeals received in fiscal 2011, offsetting the 13.8 percent increase that occurred between fiscal 2010 and 2011, according to the agency.
The EEOC also plans to begin automatically flagging potentially discriminatory practices. Its strategic plan includes the goal of using, by 2016, an integrated data system to identify potentially discriminatory policies or practices in federal agencies, for example.
