The Department of Energy has sent a memo to employees confirming an intrusion into its systems resulting in the unauthorized disclosure of personally identifiable information on about 14,000 current and past DoE employees.

DoE said in an internal memo that its cybersecurity office, the Office of Health, Safety and Security and the inspector general’s office are working with other federal law enforcement agencies to gather information about the incident – which follows another successful attack on the department in recent months.

According to the memo, no classified data were targeted or compromised, but PII may have been affected and notifications are being sent out.
