FAA Closing Contract Towers, Guidance Issued

The FAA has announced that 149 contract air traffic control towers will close starting April 7 as part of the agency’s sequestration implementation plan that will keep 24 of the towers open along with 16 towers that operate under a cost-share program.

In March the agency proposed to close189 contract air traffic control towers as part of its plan to meet $637 million in cuts required under sequestration but said it would consider keeping some open.
