The FAA Managers Association has sent a letter to Transportation Secretary Anthony Fox and OMB director Sylvia Burwell seeking support to again allow the FAA to use an airport grant fund to offset budget cuts if sequestration continues in fiscal 2014.
The FAA was able to quickly stop furloughs this year when it was allowed by Congress to dip into an airport grant fund. The association wants to lay the groundwork for a similar arrangement in the upcoming fiscal year in October, just a few weeks away.
"I urge you to act proactively and decisively to avoid a funding shortfall and another disruption at the FAA," said the association’s president, David Conley.
The association wants the White House to get lawmakers to insert language into an expected temporary funding measure, a continuing resolution, to allow the FAA to transfer as much money as it needs from the grant fund to avoid furloughs.
