Federal Workforce Reduction Bill Reintroduced

Legislation has been introduced that is designed to reduce the federal workforce by permitting a new hire only when offset by the departure of three employees. A similar measure was under consideration in the previous Congress.

Rep. Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo., introduced the Federal Workforce Reduction Through Attrition Act in the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and she says it could save $35 billion over five years, ultimately cutting the federal workforce by 10 percent – all without buyouts, terminations or otherwise.

"Instead of blindly filling empty desks, my bill forces agencies to take a step back, consider which position are crucial, and make decisions based on necessity rather than luxury," said Lummis.
