First ‘Digital Corps’ Fellows Set to Spread Out to Agencies

The first set of fellows under the Biden administration’s Digital Corps initiative will soon spread out to 13 agencies to work on initiatives including “helping make federal services easier for the American people to access, to enhancing our nation’s cybersecurity, to implementing the federal IT operating plan,” the White House has said.

The Digital Corps is a cross-government fellowship program operated by the GSA to recruit early-career technologists to serve in the federal government; the announcement said the GSA received some 1,000 applications for what had been expected to be 30 initial positions but that it bumped up the number to more than 40.

It said for example that fellows will work on projects including the VA’s effort to streamline and modernize the digital tools that veterans use to access services; a centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services tool for patients to locate behavioral health providers; and a DHS initiative to develop cybersecurity vulnerability, risk, and resilience assessments.
