Acting GSA administrator Dan Tangherlini has sent a letter to GSA employees asking them to speak up if they "see something that may be inappropriate."
Tangherlini was writing in regard to a recent IG report that has shaken up the agency and become a thorn in the side of the Obama administration ahead of the November elections, leading to a string of hearings this week with yet more possible.
The report concluded the agency overspent foolishly on its 2010 Western Regions conference, leading to the resignation of former GSA administrator Martha Johnson, who also dismissed two over her top deputies.
"One of the more troubling aspects of this incident is that people did not report this improper conduct or take action to stop it," Tangherlini wrote.
"If you see something that doesn’t seem right to you, please discuss it with your colleagues, your supervisor, or higher levels in the organization," he added.
The letter also recommends anonymously raising an issue with the IG and reassures employees that retaliatory actions against those speaking out won’t be tolerated.
