GSA Inks $9.5 Million Contract for Recovery.gov Upgrade

GSA has signed a $9.5 million contract with Maryland-based IT provider Smartronix on behalf of the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board for a redesign of its website, Recovery.gov.

That price tag initially covers redesign and construction, hardware installation, software infrastructure, hosting, data storage, content-management system improvements and labor support.

According to GSA, the contract – worth up to $18 million through 2014 – is intended to put in place new and interactive technologies that will make it easier for site users to see how and where $787 billion in funds are being spent under the Recovery Act. One feature would allow users to view spending distributions at the neighborhood level.

"Armed with easy access to this information, taxpayers can make government more accountable for its decisions," said the commissioner of GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service, James Williams.

The contract marks the first award under GSA’s Alliant contract.

A notice on Recovery.gov stated that Smartronix won the contract in a bid with two other companies, and will subcontract with Washington D.C.-based Synteractive Corporation, TMP Government, in McLean, Va., and New York-based KPMG.
