IT Program Manager Now Official Title

OPM has added IT program manager as an official title in the IT management series, GS-2210, reflecting growth in that kind of work: leading, coordinating, communicating, integrating and being accountable for overall success of IT programs.

The new title supports the White House’s plan to reform IT management, OPM said, noting that application of the new job family standard would provide agencies more flexibility to manage IT programs responsibly and to attract and retain a more effective workforce.

OPM requires agencies to apply new or updated standards to covered positions within 12 months and encouraged them to use the new title as soon as possible.

According to the job family standard for administrative work in the IT group 2200: "The IT Program Manager leads, coordinates, communicates, integrates and is accountable for the overall success of the program, ensuring alignment with critical agency priorities. They are responsible for ensuring the work efforts achieve the outcome specified within the agency’s business strategy, including appropriate strategic, life cycle management and capital IT investment plans."
