The key House committee on oversight of the federal government has been reorganized for the current Congress, formally adding a subcommittee on delivering on government efficiency to work to carry out recommendations of the Trump administration’s outside “department of government efficiency” commission.
As previously announced, that subcommittee is chaired by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., while Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., remains chair of the full committee—which has reverted to its former name of Oversight and Government Reform, compared with Oversight and Accountability during the Biden administration.
Also new is a subcommittee on federal law enforcement, chaired by Rep. Clay Higgins, R-La. Several of the subcommittees have been renamed, as well.
The subcommittee on government operations, which has primary jurisdiction over federal workplace matters, will continue to be chaired by Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Texas. Other subcommittees and their leaders are: cybersecurity, information technology and government innovation, Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C.; economic growth, energy policy and regulatory affairs, Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Mo.; health care and financial services, Rep. Glenn Grothman, R-Wis.; military and foreign affairs, Rep. William Timmons, R-S.C.
The committee no longer has a select subcommittee on pandemic oversight.
