New Intelligence Information Strategy Announced

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence has announced a strategy to improve the ability of intelligence professionals to share information.

The "Intelligence Community Information Sharing Strategy" calls for the removal of institutional and technical barriers to information sharing, the DNI said in a statement.

Likewise, the strategy describes a new information sharing model emphasizing a "responsibility to provide" culture and an intelligence community with an "enterprise-wide" perspective.

The strategy also entails moving from "static" collaboration to mission-centric, self-generating collaboration that adapts to changing needs such as those brought on by the introduction of new partners such as state and local law enforcement.

It also calls for going from a network-centric security model to an information-centric one where security is built into data, or one in which data is tagged, as well as going from a compartment-based access model to an attribute-based model that considers environmental factors, mission focus and affiliation.

"Improving information sharing will bring about true all-source analysis and deliver timely, objective, and actionable intelligence to our senior decision-makers, war fighters, and defenders of the homeland," said Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell.
