OMB Updates Acquisition Certification in Contracting

The Office of Federal Procurement Policy has issued updated requirements for the Federal Acquisition Certification in Contracting (FAC-C), originally issued in January 2006 and revised in December 2008.

It said it updated the certification in order to better align the FAC-C with the DoD’s Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA), contracting certification curriculum and to strengthen the development of civilian agency contracting professionals.

Revisions to the FAC-C program reflect recommendations from a multi-agency Contracting Functional Advisory Board, and input from the Chief Acquisition Officers Council, the Federal Acquisition Institute, and other stakeholders.

Revisions include, for example, a closer alignment with curriculum to the DAWIA curriculum, including nearly 100 hours of additional targeted training.

Further, all contracting professionals are now required to be registered in the Federal Acquisition Institute Training Application System and civilian agencies are required to utilize FAITAS to manage their acquisition workforce members.
