Reflecting discontent with a range of conditions nationwide,
Americans are increasingly expressing negative opinions about
the federal government and business corporations, according
to a study by the Pew Research Center for the People and the
Press.
It said that ratings for the federal government and Congress
have dropped steadily over the past year, while favorable
opinions of business corporations are at 45 percent, their
lowest in two decades – especially oil companies, for which
just 20 percent of those questioned expressed positive views.
Favorable ratings for the federal government dropped from 59
percent to 45 percent over the past year, according to the
survey of 2,006 Americans from Oct. 12-24, while ratings for
the Supreme Court and the news media have remained unchanged.
The President”s job approval-rating hovers at around 40
percent near its all time low, while positive ratings for the
Republican Party have dropped to 42 percent, below positive
ratings for the Democratic Party of 49 percent, according to
the study.
