The Office of Personnel Management and the Department of
Defense have sent targeted emails to 136,000 registered
USAJOBS users in an attempt to fill job vacancies in the
Iraq and Afghanistan reconstruction efforts, OPM has
announced.
It said job searches on DoD’s SOFIA (Support Our Friends
in Iraq and Afghanistan) recruitment website are linked
to OPM’s jobsite in order to help DoD increase
needed-skills in civil engineering, banking, agriculture,
education, communications and security.
The Army will be hiring individuals initially for 12
months with an option to extend, and applicants need not
be former or current federal employees. However, OPM
says applicants have to be willing to live under field
conditions and foreign language ability and prior military
experience are helpful.
