The Office of Personnel Management recently conducted sessions
for federal emergency preparedness specialists focusing on
needs identified in its recent survey about security and
emergency response measures.
OPM said it promoted telework as a necessary feature of agency
continuity of operations planning, and encouraged agencies to
think about how they might accomplish work through alternative
work sites.
The sessions follow Forward Challenge 04, a recent event in
which the Department of Homeland Security and more than 40
agencies tested continuity of operations plans.
Under the direction of the Federal Emergency Management Agency
they carried out a full-scale scenario-based event in which
federal departments and agencies implemented COOP plans,
deployed pre-designated personnel and leadership at
alternative worksites where they practiced conducting
essential functions.
