OPM has published a guide to its strategic leadership succession management model building upon a December 2005 draft to include enhanced job aides for identifying succession targets, and system, standards and metrics exercises for a leadership chart, bench strength chart, and competency profile chart.
The update also includes checklist for performing an annual review of existing leadership succession plans, which are required under the Federal Workforce Flexibility Act of 2004 and something agencies increasingly have to account for.
The online guide, at www.opm.gov/hcaaf_resource_center can help agencies conduct annual reviews and modify existing succession plans, and OPM said it should prove useful in meeting requirements under American Recovery and Reinvestment Act initiatives.
