Saying that “in these times of tight budgets and close scrutiny competition for training funds can be tough,” OPM has sent advice to prospective attendees of one of its own training conferences on how to get approval.
OPM sent sample language to benefits officers “to help you make your case to attend” its Fall Festival of Training, which will cover benefits issues including retirement, Social Security, the TSP and other programs. It’s to be held November 29, 30 and December 1 in Phoenix.
The message cited a section of statute requiring OPM to provide current training designed to promote fully informed retirement decisions by federal employees and requiring each retirement counselor of an agency to complete such a training session at least once each year. The Fall Festival of Training meets those requirements, OPM said.
