Partnership Releases Resume-Based Hiring Guide

The Partnership for Public Service has published a how-to "workbook" for resume-based hiring of talent into the Senior Executive Service, designed specifically for executive resources and hiring officials.

PPS is a major supporter of using resumes earlier and more centrally in the hiring process and is trying to get provisions promoting that into SES reform legislation introduced in the Senate recently.

It said the workbook resulted from a pilot project designed to find best practices for relying on the resume process to hire into the SES instead of the more cumbersome qualifications essays.

According to PPS, seven agencies took part in the pilot including the Departments of Labor, State, Education, as well as GSA and OPM.

The workbook includes tools and templates and is broken down into sections: start-up and preparation, recruitment, enhanced assessment, and streamlined qualifications review board.
