Federal Manager's Daily Report

SBA Again Gives Agencies an ‘A’ in Meeting Contracting Goals

Federal agencies collectively have again received an A grade in an SBA assessment of how well they meet certain contracting goals it oversees, including achieving what it called an all-time high of 26.5 percent of contracting dollars awarded to small businesses.

That exceeded the goal of 23 percent, and “amounts to a $162.9 billion investment in the small business economy – an $8.7 billion increase from the previous fiscal year,” the SBA said.

Among the 24 Cabinet departments and largest independent agencies, 10 scored an A+ while another 10 received an A. The exceptions were the VA with a D, HHS with a C, and Treasury and DoD with Bs.

Agencies also collectively exceeded prime contract goals for spending directed to small disadvantaged businesses, service-disabled veteran owned businesses, to women-owned small businesses, as well as the goal for small business subcontracting. The only goal not met was for historically underutilized business zone (HUBZone) contracts but the amount spent in that area still was a record, it said.

The report including full agency grades is here.
