An EEOC law judge has approved a settlement in a class action suit originating in 2007 alleging discrimination against African American males in monetary awards at SSA’s headquarters near Baltimore.
The agreement calls for the agency to pay $22.7 million into a settlement fund and to monitor and report on the outcomes of awards there this year and next.
“African American males who worked at SSA Headquarters at any time between 2003-2023 will be eligible to submit a claim for a settlement award,” said the Kator, Parks, Weiser & Wright law firm, which represented the class members.
“For far too long, the important contributions by African American male workers at SSA headquarters were ignored. This settlement provides a significant amount of money to compensate for the 20 years of harm suffered by these workers, and forces SSA to ensure that there is a fair system going forward.”
