The American Federation of Government Employees has reached an agreement on the terms of a new labor deal with the Social Security Administration.
The four-year agreement comes after 27 months of negotiations passed through several stages of development, at one point last year being turned over to the Federal Service Impasses Panel when talks stalled.
"It’s been a long road but we fought hard and proudly won improvements in benefits and working conditions for the employees of the Social Security Administration," said AFGE president John Gage.
AFGE’s lead negotiator, Witold Skwierczynski, praised the agreement, saying that it produced "improvements in eye care and travel benefits, strengthened employee rights in the workplace and allowed for the union to have broader ability to represent employees in meetings with SSA management."
